The breaking news is that the CLAT 2020 exam pattern and the syllabus has been revised and thank God they did!

With each passing year, the number of students appearing for CLAT has been hiking. The last 5 years have witnessed a growth of 30% among the young aspirants appearing for CLAT. The growing competition has been anticipated like never before.

The entrance exam of a law aspirant is designed to test the skill set of a student’s aptitude so that it meets the requirement of a law university. The two main expertise about being a law student is to have critical reasoning skills and a comprehensive assumption factor. The teaching methodology adopted by most law colleges demands a skill set that will adapt to the university’s curriculum.

Lately, the professors at National Law University realized that CLAT couldn’t test the required skill set of a law aspirant. The NLUs have been incapable of achieving the highest standards of legal education in the country. There was a growing gap between the selected students and the law school requirement. It is necessary that the student is tested for their aptitude instead of their learning quotient factor.

The new CLAT exam pattern for 2020 resolves all of these things and we are here to let you know how!

The consortium of NLUs has announced a change in the exam pattern. According to the press release issued on 22nd November 2019, the new paper pattern will comprise 150 questions instead of the 200 questions that were there earlier. This has brought in a mega relief among the aspirants who were immensely pressurized to crack 200 sets of questions in the duration of just 2 hours.

Another important highlight of the announcement is that the new exam pattern will contain comprehensive based questions from the different sections- Quantitative Techniques, English Language, Current Affairs, Deductive reasoning, and Logical Reasoning.

This will test not just the student’s understanding abilities and interpretation skills but also critical reasoning.

According to the new exam pattern, the English section itself will contain only comprehension passages and contextual synonyms, antonyms, word meanings, and references extracted from the passages given.

Critical Reasoning has been given prior importance. The questions asked in this section will challenge the students to discern through an argument and logically make an obstinate decision. They will also be tested on their decision making which will examine their deductive skills.

Quantitative aptitude will have basic questions of the standard 10th level.

The section on the Legal aptitude Test will scrutinize a student’s interest in the field of law, and research aptitude and will also check the student’s problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Also, there is no need for mugging updates and historic events for the general knowledge section any longer. The new CLAT 2020 exam pattern will consist of questions related to current affairs. Static General knowledge in the various fields of science, technology, and history will not be necessary. This section concerns national and international current affairs.

With the introduction of the new CLAT exam pattern, the marking scheme remains the same. For the objective-type questions, each correct answer will fetch you 1 mark while an incorrect answer will deduct 0.25 marks. While the two subjective type questions will carry 25 marks each.

How will this new pattern impact you?

If you are thorough with the syllabus, start practicing mock tests based on the new pattern. Here’s where the previous year’s question papers wouldn’t be of much help.

The new question pattern has been changed in accordance to sustain the standards of legal education in the country, therefore the two most important aspects to be kept in mind are enhancing comprehension skills and critical logical reasoning, practicing the fundamentals of maths, and getting along with the current affairs happening around you.

Knowing the CLAT 2020 exam pattern will effectively help you to save a lot of time. Focus and practice efficiently while making the correct use of the time dedicated to each question. Structure and strategize your preparation according to the given syllabus and the exam pattern. Start channelizing your strengths into a specific statement of direction. Your efforts will reflect with the dedication you put through in preparing for your dream college.
