The RJS exam includes three stages- Prelims, Mains, and the Viva-voce (personal interview). The exam pattern, including question type, total marks, duration, etc., differs for each stage. All three stages are qualifying exams. Only the shortlisted candidates in the prelims are eligible for the main exam.

Any applicant planning to appear in the Rajasthan Judicial Service exam must be between 21 to 40 years of age.

The preliminary level is an objective-type exam that consists of 100 questions, each carrying 1 mark. Candidates get 2 hours to answer all 100 questions. The merit list is based on the total marks obtained by students in the RJS prelims, and aspirants securing marks above the cut-off appear in the main exam. The total number of students who appear in the main exam is 15 times the total number of vacancies.
